The dept has been inundated with enquiries from holiday owners, small travel business proprietors, Gite & Villa owners and other members from the travel industry. Economic Climate
It's certainly true that businesses are feeling the pinch in these difficult economic times and holiday companies are feeling this as much as anyone else, but the current trend does show that people are still going to take a family holiday no matter what. This certainly looks like it's going to be a holiday in the UK but a significant amount of customers still realize that even with the Euro/Pound being so terrible that Europe is no dearer than the UK but is dearer than it used to be.
Don't forget purchasing a European holiday is cheaper than purchasing a UK holiday and if you're taking a self catering holiday then you can buy cheap food in Europe and cook in your accommodation.
Ferries and flights to Europe have reacted to this economic downturn so you can buy a ticket to get you into Europe for a lot less than two years ago.

Fun in the Sun - so if you want fun in the sun then do consider France, Spain and Italy - it's not as expensive as you might think or what you are used to in the UK

Family holidays in France is one of the most popular holidays in Europe, France is a short distance from England and with a blink of an eye you're there. France is an attractive country with many beautiful places of interest. Brittany is very similar to Cornwall and it also boasts a very humid climate (much to peoples amazement).

In the Charente and the Vendee you have some fabulous sea food and miles of golden beaches, moving further down to the Aquitaine, here are Forrest's of Pine trees dotted every where with some super beaches that go on for miles.

We have upgraded our secure credit card processing facility to utilize the newest and most advanced card screening process on the Internet.
As some of you may have already noticed when using your card online to purchase products, you now have an extra stage to go through to ensure your card is yours, it's called 3D SECURE. With 3D SECURE you are given the opportunity to enter your date of birth and then a password, that's it. From now on future payments on that particular card are even safer, you will now enter that password you chose earlier when you shop - it's just one more stage that could catch out a fraudster who has your card. This system is now being used by us to give you extra piece of mind.

A Few Words
It's been a while since our last entry on our holiday blog, this is purely down to the fact that it has been crazier in the office than ever before. It's been a difficult year for holiday companies in 2007 because of the economic climate. In January prices of petrol increased, cost of living went through the roof and community tax went higher than previous years. These elements has impacted on consumer spending and it hit holiday companies, shops and stores more than ever before.
The good news is that Williams Holidays continued to grow in this difficult period, we had increased bookings and our new parks saw a higher percentage of bookings than our new parks in previous years.
We witnessed three holiday companies go into receivership which was sad to see but it highlighted that we had good stability in the travel industry and to progress in such difficult times is comforting and also proof that we have our finger on the pulse.

Growth
For 2008 we have now 6 or 7 new holiday parks on our list, these are in all 4 of our countries, so something for everyone. All holiday parks are 4 star and have children friendly facilities.

New mobile homes in France
The 3 Siblu parks that we have mobile homes on are Domaine de Kerlann, La Pignade and La Reserve - these parks all have brand new 3 bedroom superior mobile homes, ready for the 2008 holiday season - have a look at the accommodation pages within the park pages on our website and you will see the pictures of the new mobile homes, "They're great"

Vouchers
New for 2008 is the holiday vouchers that we will be distributing throughout the year, these vouchers will offer you money off certain holidays and especially to our newsletter subscribers or to customers that have registered with us. Some vouchers will offer as much as £50 or even £75 off many holidays.

Prices Frozen until November 1st
We are still offering 2008 holidays at 2007 prices, this was set to finish on 1 October but as it proved so popular we lengthened the offer until 1 November - so as they say "Don't delay, book today" it's not long to go now.

Park Spotlight
On every country page (where the maps is) we will have a holiday park spotlight or park of the week, this will highlight a park that we think will suit you or that is selling fast and so on, this also comes with a 5% off special offer for the duration of the spotlight, don't forget that doesn't include the 20% you receive when booking online - our holidays really are value for money.

Further Holiday Information for our Customer's

At present we are updating our customer area for customer's that have booked their self catering family through us. On your customer area you will be able to download route directions to all holiday parks rather than depending on Williams holidays to send them to you, you can download them as many times as you like. other holiday information and a FAQ section is being uploaded as well, ETA for completion of this work will be end of September.

A new facility being developed on the Williams Holidays website is a favourites list, this facility allows customers to save a favourite park to a page and it can be emailed to you or referred back later where you can then book, this will save you in trying to remember which parks you liked.

Another facility is SEND TO A FRIEND and it does exactly what is says, as many of our customer go on holiday with friends or family then this new service will allow customers to forward our park pages to a friends email so that they can view it together and then discuss.

A FAQ list is also being prepared, if any customer's have a question that they feel should be added to this list then pass it onto us and we'll add it.

Short haul Flights to European Holiday Destinations

Airport tax has doubled in most cases as from feb 1, passengers are asked to pay an additional £5 on short haul flights, airports throughout Britain are having customers complaining about this add-on but it's out of their hands.

Last Minute Getaways
With the climate being warmer than ever before at this time of year customers are choosing to take advantage of this a grab a last minute booking to Italy or Spain. Flights to Italy are proving hard to come by but flights to Spanish holiday destinations are still available.

Sales of Easter Holidays are Up
Brittany & Barcelona are having an increased amount of holiday bookings compared to previous years, again this could be due to the unprecedented good weather and also the low cost of holidaying abroad.

Booking Online Update
As you all know Williams Holidays are leading the way in online self catering holiday bookings, we have been instrumental in developing the latest online booking software directed especially at the family holiday market. Our holiday points system is also proving very popular, What is this system? well it's where customers book a holiday with us and then not only get discount holidays online + £20 off, but they also get money off further holidays as a loyalty gift.

This system is proving popular that we are already upgrading our booking online facility - whilst we are upgrading the facility some few customers may experience the odd software bug, if you do then please contact the office for us to investigate and amend accordingly, Williams Holidays apologize for any difficulties that customers may incur.

The newer version will be in place in roughly a month.

Selling well at the moment is both the Roma parks, that's Roma Flash and Village Roma, also Les Mouettes is going extremely well as is Domaine de kerlann.

Rennes Expo
Williams Holidays are flying out all of their holiday advisers to the Tourism de Salon in Rennes on the 2 Feb. This is the 11th year the Expo has been running and it's proving to be an excellent source of information for customers and business's. We generally meets with park directors, other holiday advisers, the French tourist boards and many other holiday linked companies. last year our CEO (Mr Williams) made a small presentation to a number of holiday companies about the way forward in self catering holidays, purely of the back of this speech Williams Holidays received a substantial number of business propositions from Holiday companies throughout Europe, some interesting, some laughable and a small minority that were worth following up.

Only a few partnerships were taken up by Williams Holidays as it was thought that it would be prudent to keep specialising rather than expand into different areas and not offer the level of expertise that we are currently offering at the moment.

We are pleased to inform customers that we have just secured a new online holiday insurance facility, this will supercede our existing policy which you used when booking your holiday with us.

So What's the Difference?
Well, it will be up to 50% cheaper but still will have all of the cover than you could ask for, the only difference is that it will take you 3 minutes to order rather than us do it for you.

Our phone line upgrade has been completed successfully we are pleased to say, the booking online system has been updated so that it can cope with our increase in online bookings.

We have taken on more holiday advisers and receptionists.

Vilanova park in Barcelona and our Italian holiday parks Villagio nettuno and Santa Fortunata are all sold out for the October half term.

The top 5 holidays parks for 2006 are already selling well for 2007 and the new parks La Plage in South Brittany and Roma Flash in Italy are selling fast aswell. If you book early you can save upto £200 and you only need to leave a 10% deposit - why wait?

Upgrading Network System
Williams Holidays are upgrading their computer and networking systems from 16 october to 3 November, this will dramatically improve our working system and assist us in dealing with the busy automated booking system.
All bookings can still be made online and the upgrade will not effect our customers in anyway.

Telephones will be un-operational during this period but any calls to our reception will be logged and forwarded onto our bookings staff where they will return customer calls once back on track.

Our main objective is to provide quality holidays for families in Europe, we want families to have fantastic self catering accommodation on fantastic holiday parks - but what is a fantastic holiday park? To earn a 3 or 4 star rating isn't enough for Williams Holidays, we expect more from a park than a decent pool and restaurant.

What do Williams Holidays expect?

A park has to be clean and tidy, no litter on the paths or roads
Friendly staff who can offer you advice or recommend places of interest to visit
Maintenance men that will rectify a problem quickly should one arise
Grounds well looked after by gardeners
Swimming pools checked on a regular basis
Prices not too expensive
Well stocked grocery shop
Internet access
Safe for children on the playgrounds and on the internal roads
Great holiday atmosphere (very important)

All of this sounds the norm, but we can assure you that even this small basic list is rare in many cases, holiday parks can be badly run, they can be dirty and have a terrible atmosphere and also very expensive.

Benodet by the sea
Bénodet is the embodiment of the sea and the river, its maritime heritage can be found within the harbour where both working and pleasure craft lie side by side at the quay. Join in this rich atmosphere and discover the pleasures of the Thalassotherapy Centre, with its relaxing treatments, or visit the marina to admire the rich variety of activity around this thriving water village. Enjoy the fine safe sandy beaches that abound or sail in the sheltered bay that is a paradise for small craft of all kinds. Alternatively take a cruise to the Glénan islands or up the peaceful river Odet towards Quimper.

Bénodet and its heritage
The thousand year-old history of Brittany is reflected in Bénodet and its surroundings. A Brittany full of traditions, with song and dance reflecting the exceptional heritage, that has been fashioned by the interaction of both humans and the sea. Picture postcards views blend in with the rugged Cornouaille landscape, and ancient impassive stones tell their own stories of the history of time far-off legends.

Activities in Bénodet
Bénodet has something for everyone, either on the water or land. Water sports with sailing, canoeing, windsurfing and kite surfing, either bring your own or hire from a variety of centres. Land based activities include golf, tennis, hiking, petaneque, cycling or just relaxing watching others be more energetic! Also for the less sporting visitor Bénodet has many cultural features including, a cinema / casino complex, and a library, plus many concerts and exhibitions are held in the town throughout the year.

Concarneau
One of France’s largest fishing ports, Concarneau is also a popular resort. The view of the medieval walled town is one of the most photographed in Brittany and the tourist crowds flock in every summer. Vauban improved the fortifications against pirates and invaders, and despite the souvenir shops and bars, the town still gives a feeling of entering a time warp. The fishing museum within the walls tells the history of the town and its importance as a fish-canning centre. Le Marinarium, open from April to September, exhibits the local flora and fauna. The walk around the bay and ramparts is the best way to see the town.

Cornouaille
Cornouaille is an extremely popular area with tourists not least because of its cultural identity, its historical sites, its coastline which is highly suitable for water sports, and its rich historical and artistic heritage. It also owes its reputation to the many festivals and shows which animate towns especially during the summer, in particular the old sailing ships at Douarnenez, the Festival de Cornouaille at Quimper, the Fête des Brodeuses at Pont L'Abbé, the Fête des Filets Bleus at Concarneau.

Barcelona City
Barcelona is more than just a single city,it is really a collection of multi-faceted and diverse cities. The visitor unfamiliar with its history might be surprised that such a modern and enterprising city preserves its historic Gothic center almost intact, or by the curious contrast between the maze of narrow streets and the grid-like layout of the Eixample, the urban planning "Enlargement" project of the end of the 19th century. This is a city that should not be missed when having a holiday in Spain. Just watching the people go by when having a drink or a meal in one of the many restaurant and bars is a spectacle itself.

Barcelona Zoo
Address: Parc de la Ciutadella, Metro: Ciutadella Vila Olímpica. Currently housing over 7,000 animals, the Zoo's main attractions are the dolphinarium, a brand new penguin enclosure featuring the endangered Humboldt species and an underground tunnel for observation. Open: daily, normally between 10am-5pm (times vary according to seasons, please check the exact times in the web page). Admission: Adults 9 euros, children aged 3-12 6 euros, under three free of charge.

Barcelona Aquarium
The largest aquarium in Europe , and the most important in the world in terms of Mediterranean wildlife, the well-designed interior holds 20 vast tanks and an immense 80-metre transparent walk-through shark tunnel . A new interactive space called Explora has recently opened, housing 50 activities aimed at allowing children to watch, touch and investigate three different marine ecosystems.Open: 9:30am-9:00pm . Last admissions one hour before closing. Admission: Adults 13 euros, children aged 4-12 9 euros, under four free of charge
Camp Nou Football Stadium & Football MuseumThe largest football stadium in Europe . Nearest Metro Collblanc. Home of the famous FC Barcelona, This is a must for children & indeed parents who are into football/soccer. The museum here is terrific. Opening hours Mon - Sat 10:00 -18.30, Sun & Hols 10.00-14.00 closed 1/1, 6/1, 24/9, 25/12.

Port Aventura
This is a massive theme park, based on Busch Gardens in Florida, attracts holidaymakers from far afield to its five worlds (Far West, Mediterránia, Mexico, China and Polynesia). Visitors can be at the Great Wall of China one minute and at the ruins of Mayan Mexico the next, and meet some cowboys for a taste of the Far West before cooling off by jumping into the great lake from the summit of the Tutuki Splash volcano. Popular attractions include the Sea Odyssey underwater adventure, the Stampida roller coaster ride and the Grand Canyon Rapids water ride

The weather for June and July was spectacular but August was a little less breathtaking but still good enough not to spoil your holiday.

Flights from England are slowly getting back to normal now, but it you want to be sure that your flight is departing at the correct time then we advise you to call your operator once more.

Our customers going to barcelona are experiencing no problems at all in departures and arrivals.

Airport Disruption

10th August (11am)
Following an increase to the CAA security level stringent security measures have been implemented at UK airports.
As a result there is likely to be severe disruption at airports and passengers should be advised to configure their baggage in line with the above requirements before arriving at the airport, and to allow plenty of time to check in and pass through airport security screening. The following advice has been issued by the department of transport to be passed onto passengers.
With immediate effect, the following arrangements apply to all passengers starting their journey at a UK airport and to those transferring between flights at a UK airport.
All cabin baggage must be processed as hold baggage and carried in the hold of passenger aircraft departing UK airports.
Passengers may take through the airport security search point, in a single (ideally transparent) plastic carrier bag, only the following items. Nothing may be carried in pockets:
Pocket-size wallets and pocket-size purses plus contents (for example money, credit cards, identity cards etc (not handbags)
Travel documents essential for the journey (for example passports and travel tickets)
Prescription medicines and medical items sufficient and essential for the flight (eg, diabetic kit), except in liquid form unless verified as authentic
Spectacles and sunglasses, without cases
Contact lens holders, without bottles of solution
For those travelling with an infant: baby food, milk (the contents of each bottle must be tasted by the accompanying passenger) and sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight (nappies, wipes, creams and nappy disposal bags)
Female sanitary items sufficient and essential for the flight, if unboxed (eg tampons, pads, towels and wipes)
Tissues (unboxed) and/or handkerchiefs
Keys (but no electrical key fobs).
All passengers will be hand searched, and their footwear and all the items they are carrying X-ray screened.
Pushchairs and walking aids will be X-ray screened, and only airport-provided wheelchairs may pass through the screening point.
In addition to the above, all passengers boarding flights to the USA and all the items they are carrying, including those acquired after the central screening point will be subjected to secondary search at the boarding gate.
Regrettably, significant delays at airports are inevitable. Passengers are being asked to allow themselves plenty of extra time and to ensure that other than the few permitted items listed above, all their belongings are placed in their hold baggage and checked in.
These additional security measures will make travel more difficult for passengers, particularly at such a busy time of the year. But they are necessary and will continue to keep flights from UK airports properly secure.
We hope that these measures, which are being kept under review by the government, will need to be in place for a limited period only.

It's early August and we have grabbed a minute from the Williams Holidays hectic schedule to update you on latest developments.

Last minute holidays
We sold out all holidays for the height of season, now all we have left is some great holiday bargains for 26 August, these are situated in Bordeaux, Charente, Vendee and Brittany - prices are as little as £375. That is seriously cheap for your later summer holiday.

2007 family holidays
We are in the process of updating our live booking system for 2007 family holidays, this will be completed by end of August. Prices for 2007 will be added in October, so if you book online before then, you will get the 2007 holiday at 2006 prices.

I can announce that the new maps are on our site and are running LIVE, the purpose of the new maps are for a quicker and more accurate experience for our customers, you can keep zooming in on your chosen family holiday park and eventually end up with a close up of the park or at least the area. Google maps of France isn't as good as lets say Google England but it will only be a matter of time until you can zoom in and see your parks swimming pool and a LIVE layout of the park. We are in the process of adding new maps to our countries map pages, Big deal i hear you say - well this a first for travel agents as we are using sate of art Google map logging. It's a live view of the map from a satellite. You soon will be able to download the map to your cars sat-nav and then follow the LIVE directions to the park. This really is cutting edge stuff.
Also comng soon to Williams Holidays customers is their very own control panel where you can manage all aspects of your holiday booking - i.e pay the balance of your family holiday, alter emails, book car hire and so on, all through a secure control panel.

All of the above are normally associated with expensive holidays but not anymore, as some of you already know, we provide high quality accommodation on great family holiday parks but at very low prices. There is no need to pay through the nose for your European family holiday.
